Introduction
From Race Director, John Mackay:

For those of you who have not been fully inducted into to the joys of winter running with the Club, to break up the tedium of running through dark, wet, cold streets, we run a handicap series for a bit of fun (every year since 1990!!) It also gives you the chance to see how training is going because the run is timed.  Instead of going off in all directions in separate groups, we all follow the same route, with slower runners going off first and faster runners held back so that in theory everyone can finish together.

Any amendments to the official results, please contact John, who will consider to make any changes. Good luck!!

The Route

The main route:

leaves from the lamppost,
down to Green Street Green, [south on Sevenoaks Road]
past the Rose & Crown,
up to Locksbottom lights, [all the way along the A21, then turn right, onto Crofton Road]
down to the War Memorial
and back along Sevenoaks Road.

This is pretty close to a 10k route.  To help close up the handicap a bit, runners who would not expect to finish in 50 minutes have the extra advantage of cutting the corners to make it about 5 miles, with timings adjusted accordingly.

Detailed Results

Race
4: March 2010

This weeks Handicap was the last in the series for this year and the 94th since 1989 when a dozen people took on the challenge. This week there were 63 finishers and 2 had to pull out. Paul O’Grady was delighted with a PB of 39.27 but the glory goes to Jason Cherriman once again who took 1.03 mins off last month for a staggering time of 34.35. Another minute and he will beat the all time record, sounds easy if you say it quickly but it gets harder and harder to improve as you reach your potential. Next year we might need to get the drug testers in at the finish.

It was also good to see founder member Dick Griffin looking in very good shape who defeated the handicapper with a finish time under 45 mins.

Race 3: February 2010

A good turnout again with 76 finishers. Hard luck to Jim Peters who pulled up injured and to new runner Mark Hoffman who got carried way and was last seen heading up the High Street!

A first class time from Jason Cherriman with 35.38 the 2nd fasted time for the handicap since it started in 1989. The record still stands to Tom Cherchuck in 33.39 back in 1991.

Race 2: December 2009

Numbers were down a bit with Christmas giving some people an excuse. Hard luck to Alan Tweddle who had to pull out with a calf injury and to Chris Thompson who could not even start following a fall on Sunday. Congratulations to Chris Marshall who clocked up his 70th Handicap but it was Paul Marshall who showed him the way tonight with the first 10k runner home. Jason Cherriman fast fastest in 37.49.

£44.00  has been raised on the night for our charity the Muscular Dystrophy.

Race 1: November 2009

The rain held off and it turned out to be a good night for running. 83 runners took part with some of our newer runners to the fore as they have managed to keep their talents away from the Handicapper. Well done to Steve Gallagher, Jack Maginnis, Tony Kelly and Steve Baughen in particular who really caught the finish team on the hop. However their secret is now out and due account will be taken for the rest of the series.

Graham Maynard set a fast 37.15 but could not quite make up the handicap on Jason Cherriman who finished in 37.33 having started a minute ahead.
