The 2008
Dartford Half Marathon was Martyn
Longstaff’s renaissance, coming top of
the WAVA Table for the race in this
season’s ORR Grand Prix. Only 0.75 of a
percentage point kept him from the top
of the Handicap Table which indicates
that Martyn wasn’t holding back. Eric
Enoch came first in the Handicap Table
ahead of George Fairbrother and Martyn.
Eric’s sub 60 WAVA score suggests that
there’s more to come from Eric as he
regains his form.
There are no surprises in the Overall
Rankings with Sheila, “The Sherminator”,
Shermon heading both the Handicap and
WAVA tables, being the only ORR to
complete all of the five races in the
Grand Prix so far. Michael Bennett,
David Hurley and Eric Enock are also up
there with Lauren Downie, although
Lauren has no handicap rating as she did
not participate in the 2007/08 winter
handicap.
There’s now a Summer recess in the Grand
Prix with the next race, the Dulwich
10k, not until Sunday 5th October 2008.

Rules

This competition, the third in the
series, is based upon the 11 local races and compares individual’s performances and not the fastest runner.
Awards will be presented in three categories:
A) 10k Competition: your two best 10k race times from the list above.
B) Half Marathon Competition: your two best half marathon race times from the list above.
C) Highest score: total points from all 11 races.
Scores will be calculated in two ways with an award for each:
|
1) Handicap Score:
race time as a percentage of what would be expected from an individual’s best 10k handicap time achieved during the previous winter. |
2) WAVA Score:
race time as a percentage of the world best for your age and sex.
|
Example: Best 10k
Handicap Time = 00:44:56
Projected Half Marathon Time = 01:40:34
1st Half Marathon Race Time = 01:39:30
Handicap score = 01:40:34 / 01:39:30 = 101.07
2nd Half Marathon Race Time = 01:43:45
Handicap Score = 01:40:34 / 01:43:45 = 96.93
Total Handicap Score = 101.07 + 96.93 = 198.00
|
Example:
Age= 44. Gender = Male.
WAVA Time for 10k = 28:40 (No, I’m not joking!!!)
1st 10k Race Time = 00:48:30
WAVA score = 00:28:40 / 00:48:30= 59.11
2nd Actual Race Time = 00:44:12
WAVA score = 00:28:40 / 00:44:12= 64.86
Total WAVA Score = 59.11 + 64.86 = 123.97
|
Changes from 2007/8:
We removed the Sidcup 10 and
added Petts Wood 10k.
The “short” competition now only requires two 10k races to score and is renamed to reflect the change.
The “long” competition now only requires two half marathon races to score and is renamed to reflect the change.
The “overall ranking” or “highest score” competition remains unchanged but still requires participation in the other Grand Prix races that do not feature in the aforementioned competitions.
