BAILEY "TICKLED PINK" WITH PRIZE DRAW WIN
    bar

Rachel Bailey has won the ORR shirt in the Social Events Survey prize draw.

Rachel was one of 70 hopefuls with her name in the hat. Draw master Liz Elms pulled out Rachel’s name in front of the expectant crowd of Tuesday runners, and under the watchful eye of official adjudicator and Club Chairman, John Mackay.

An established Club member of several years, Rachel is hoping to attend discos, meals out, picnics, pub nights, orienteering events and a Christmas celebration as she looks forward to some fun and exciting events in the coming months.

Everyone who completed the Social Events Survey by 31st July 2008 was entered into the draw. 87 members responded to the Survey, which closes on Saturday 16th August.

The results will then be analysed and a calendar of events for the coming year established.

Social Events Coordinator Nick Kasper thanked everyone for taking part in the Survey which he said “has yielded some top quality data to work with”. From the results so far he promised “There will be dining out, pub nights, bike rides, theatre trips, and events suitable for children”.

Once all the results have been collated Nick will present his findings in a report to be published here on the Club website and in Pulse.

Updated 13th August

Full Survey Results:

We had great fun setting up Survey Monkey to conduct this survey and found it to be very good at getting a broad cross-section of views for the first time in the club's many decades of existence!  So thanks to everyone who took part. To read Nick's summary, please follow the link to the right:

Bewl Water Bike Ride & Picnic

This year held the club's annual Bewl outing on the same day as the Bewl Water Fifteen race on Sunday 6th July.

Anyone not running the Bewl 15 who still fancied a run round the water should meet at the visitor centre car park at 11am. Those fancying a more leisurely cycle round the water should meet at around 11.30am.

The plan was then for everyone to meet up at 1pm for a picnic lunch - that includes Bewl racers, "fun" runners, cyclists and those who opted for the really leisurely Sunday morning. There will be a couple of things planned for the afternoon or you can "do your own thing" before meeting back up for tea and cakes.

Should be a nice day (or afternoon) out for all the family - bring your own picnic and, if you can, some cakes to share with the group. If you don't want to bring your own bikes, you can hire them once you get there.

2008 Annual Dinner Dance

When: Saturday 17th May 2008
Where: Darrick Wood Senior School

Michael's report from Pulse 66 - 20th May 2008

"Thanks to Linda for a really good night out at Darrick Wood school where we celebrated our club and its running members! The awards ceremonies when to a tee and one of the highlights of the night was Jan Lenton winning “Personality Of The Year” award for all her hard work and running over the last 20 years. Still regularly leading one of the middle distance and groups Nigel introduced the Jan as the winner to great applause!

Another winner was Grainne Riddell who walked off with the “Silver Tongue” for her professionalism in the art of conversation and ability to keep this going whilst running – often at great speed, and as Tonia introduced her we learned of her ability to talk right from her first night at ORR, and also that she is never backwards in coming forward !! Well done Grainne!

Karen Kent deservedly won the best new runner award having only been a member for less than one year, she tackled the start of her running career by jogging up and down the A21 until she could run for 25 minutes, then started ORR and miraculously and enthusiastically started entering races, including the London Marathon which she finished smiling all the way around, enjoying every minute!!

Peter Amos also explained the Grand Prix Awards again and prizes were given to those for different categories. See the GP 2007-08 series results here.

Thanks to Eric Enock and Barbara for putting on the lovely spread of food! Great cheesecake, not that I’ve got a sweet tooth, YUM!£
