Nick's Euro 2008 Sweepstake
|

|
Nick Kasper, a
fully-paid-up member of the club (finally) and
in the days of yore,
Heartbeat editor has bravely organised a
sweepstake to cover the Euro 2008 group stage to
help raise money for the Bromley Autistic Trust,
our nominated charity for the year.
Thanks to him for the idea, badgering people for
monies, and doing all the sums late at night to
give us this exciting day-by-day commentary as
the competition has progressed!

Thursday 19th June |
And the winners are...
Well done to everyone who took part and
helped to raise >£100 for
Bromley Autistic
Trust.
Also, congratulations to Michael
Bennett, Nick Kasper and Leo Murphy, all
of whom had the foresight to correctly
predict The Netherlands as top scorers
at the end of the Group phase of Euro
2008. Sadly, this did not yield any
prize money, merely the satisfaction of
having an excellent understanding of the
game!
Two
final tables (right) reflecting the finishing positions
(1 for all players, the other for Road
Runners) after the tie-break selections
have been taken into account.

A final word from Nick: "Thank you to
John Woodcock for donating all his prize
to BAT and to Sanjay Sharma for donating
a portion of his prize as well!" |
Tuesday
17th June |
As we near the end of
our mammoth journey, it is looking
increasingly as if Sanjay, Derek and
Owen are in line for a share of the
spoils. It can all change with
tomorrow's results, but it would take a
monumental efforts from those just
outside the big money positions if they
are to influence the final result. |
 |
Monday
16th June |
Well it is nip and tuck
at the top of the table. Sanjay Sharma
is hanging on to pole position on the
tie-break rule from Derek Laws who
fought his way back into contention with
two correct scores in tonight's games.
Owen Laws is third but there are a
clutch of hopefuls hot on his heels
including George the Fairbrother.
There are only four more matches to be
played. How much more excitement can
this competition provide us with? |
 |
Sunday
15th June |
Phew! There were those
who believed Turkey would beat the Czech
Republic, but nobody got the dramatic
final result correct, unsurprisingly!
After the weekend results, Sanjay
extends his lead at the top, with
Malcolm Sissons in hot pursuit two
points behind. Owen Laws is in the third
big money position, but with six games
remaining, a mere 4 points separates 3rd
position from 18th.
It is going to go right to the
wire.......... |
 |
| Friday 13th June |
Friday 13th proved
unlucky for most of us with very few
points won tonight. However, Sanjay's
point from the Netherlands v France
match was enough to display Derek at the
top who is displaced to second spot.
The best performance of the night came
from Zoe Wright who predicted a first
correct score in the Italy v Romania
match and a earned a point from the
later match. |
 |
|
Thursday 12th June |
A brilliant night for
Derek Laws whose two correct scores take
him to the top of the table on the
tie-break rule from his son Owen. Sanjay
Sharma moves up to third place.
Paula Ferguson moves up to 24th position
for correctly predicting Croatia's 2-1
win over Germany. |
 |
|
Wednesday 11th June |
It's all change at the
top. Ron Burke scored two correct
results tonight and he takes over as the
front-runner along with Derek Laws's son
Owen who got one correct score and a
correct result. For Ron, it meant a
gigantic leap from 27th position to
league leader. So keep faith; tomorrow
it could be you! |
 |
Tuesday
10th June |
Two more difficult
matches to predict, but a correct score
in the Greece v Sweden match puts George
Fairbrother up in to second spot behind
Mark Russell in poll position. |
 |
Monday
9th June |
The group of death
lived up to its name with two unexpected
results and few points won from
tonight's matches. John Woodcock scored
two correct results, but the accolades
go to Mark Russell who accurately
predicted Romania 0 France 0 and
promptly takes himself to the top of the
table. |

The Rules

.jpg)
All you have to do is predict the result
of each of the twenty-four EURO 2008 Group matches.
Predict a result correctly - score 3 points.
Predict a result correctly, but you get the score wrong,
- score 1 point.
The person with the highest number of points at the end of Group phase will win first prize.
Entries cost £5, with £1 guaranteed to go
to our designated charity.
All entries MUST be received before kick off of the opening match on June 7th.
Don't forget to take a copy of your
predicted scores for your own records so
that you can plot your path to victory
(or otherwise) - and also in case of the
unlikely event of the Kasper official
scorers making a points awarding error!
As a tie-break,
players are asked to nominate the team
they think will score the most goals in
the Group phase.
So don't delay - the more people
enter, (a) the bigger the prize fund and
(b) the more money goes to charity!!
ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED BUT YOU CAN STILL
DONATE MONEY TO BROMLEY AUTISTIC TRUST
