Running through Orpington's streets and the Kent countryside since 1985!
bar
We are simply the friendliest of running clubs, and since 1985 we have supported the noble sport of running in and around our little pocket of Kent. We have also since 1998 organised a very successful series of 10k (adult) and 2k (school) races.

We have strong links with neighbouring clubs and welcome friendly runners of all abilities. We are affiliated to UK Athletics and currently have some 240 members. Want to learn more about us?  Follow this link.

In a nutshell, we run every Tuesday, 8pm from outside The Buff P.H., Crescent Way.
Please enjoy checking out our website and we look forward to running with you!

Sept 6th: New Month, new website management!!  As you will have now seen in Pulse, Steve Wright is stepping down at the helm from website duties to focus on his running!

"In the last two years, I've made some significant changes to the way the club has communicated internally and I'm particularly proud when I've received praise from the general road runner who may have even started their Tuesday night association with ORR because of having seen the website.

The two most important improvement I've made to the website, which I'd like to see continued and/or developed further, are the ORR Club results pages that attach to the Yellow Shirts Calendar, and the migration of all of our photos to the Flickr website. The first, combined with the google search bar, means that we can review own own and our Club's performance at our favourite races across the year. With the second, we can all directly share our photographic experiences of races with each other!

Thanks to everyone that has contributed and supported the development of the Club over the last couple of years.  And finally, watch out for the White Rabbit he's out there, training somewhere!!"

July 24th: Have you completed the social events survey?
Nick has got an important update for us on his social events page...

July 22nd: Peter 'Stats' Amos has updated the Grand Prix results to reflect the positions after the Dartford Half Marathon (12 runners). Where do you stand in the rankings... ?

Also, results from the Bewl Water Fifteen updated (8 runners).
July 17th:

An official Club vest is up for grabs to a lucky runner in a prize draw!

All you have to do is spend a few moments telling us about your leisure interests and what you think of ORR Club social events, and your name will automatically entered into the draw if you respond by 31st July. Nick Kasper (right), our new Social Events coordinator is keen to find out what sort of social activities really appeal to Road Runners. Your feedback will help him to organise a series of fun events to suit all. For your chance to win the Club vest, click on the link that will be sent to you directly on or around 18th July and enter the Survey Monkey system to complete the survey. The wonders of advanced technology will ensure that your name gets entered in the draw!!

You may also respond anonymously to the survey but you will NOT be entered into the draw if you respond using this method.  For the link, see the social events page. The survey will close on 16th August and feedback on the responses will appear on the 'social events' page shortly afterwards.

July 15th: We're back and ready to receive updates!!! Watch this space because coming up in the next couple of days you'll receive a personal invite to complete a short social events survey to give Nick plenty of data to muse over as he takes up his new role!!
July 3rd-13th: The Editor is away catching some surf in Cornwall, so no updates here!  Check out the Forum and the Photo Site for updates that other people may make!
July 1st:

Tonight is the third summer run - the Lullingstone Run . It's a 12-mile route all in; departing promptly from the usual place at 8pm. There will be shorter options!

Make sure you are confident of your capabilities within the groups you depart with... all groups should be familiar with best practice - i.e. group leaders, group back-markers, a common understanding of the route, and so on, - remember that Yellow Shirts 'don't lose anyone'!  Check out our safety policy for more details.

Nick Kasper steps into Linda Kemp's shoes as our new Social Events Coordinator!  Check out the link for news and developments in the next couple of weeks!  Thanks to Linda Kemp for looking after the club's AGM and other social events for the last couple of years! This weekend is Bewl Water Picnic to coincide with Bewl Fifteen.

Finally - some people have been asking why all the race results are not up to date and why we don't have photos of every Tuesday run... well remember guys, this is a running community website!!  If you don't provide the information, we can't share in the fun of it! So get writing, snapping, contributing to discussions and send it to the right people so we can find out what we're all up to!

JUNE 2008
June 25th:

Results of the Upper Junior 2k race are now finalised; and a page for Saturday created!
Did NO-ONE take any pictures of this year's Chevening Run? Tsk tsk
June 23rd:

The results of the 10k race, and the three 2k schools races are now online - here!

Having organised a fantastic day of races for the 11th year in a row, time for Yellow Shirts to do a bit of running themselves!  Here's a line up of this week's big activities:

Tuesday
24th June
Summer Run #2: The Chevening Evening
Possibly one of the best club trail runs of the year!

For those who want to do the full route (12-ish miles), meet at the usual spot near the Buff for 7:30pm!  You will then run to Knockholt Pound and await the other groups before running the Chevening loop all together, and then return to the Buff.

For the shorter option meet at the Buff for an 8pm sharp meet, jump in and grab a lift with friends to Knockholt Pound, followed by a 4.5 mile loop of the Chevening North Downs area (aiming to leave Knockholt at about 8:15pm)
If you know Knockholt village, simply drive there and look for the big bunch of lunatics in yellow shirts!

Those who want to stay local, Nick K will rustle up something in the 6-8 mile range - 8pm depart.
Friday
27th June
Summer Mob Match

New Eltham Joggers invite Petts Wood Runners and Orpington Road Runners to a mob match at Avery Hill park - starting 7.00pm. An approx 4 mile race around Avery Hill park is planned, running club which has the highest # of finishers above the other clubs wins!

After which it's back to the Metro Gas bar for drinks and some food. Changing rooms and showers are also available at Metro Gas (Avery Hill Road SE9). What's a Mob Match?

June 21st:

Today (Saturday) - 5k time trial at Darrick Wood track for Road Runners wanting to get a leg stretch before...

Sunday - the 11th Orpington 10k and 2k school races!!!  Let's keep fingers crossed for great weather!  In 2007 it rained in the afternoon, but after the main race, and in 2006 I believe it was the hottest day of the year!  So somewhere in-between would be good for 2008!  Good luck everyone, results will be posted as soon as verified by Race Results Command!

June 19th:

Orpington 10k - less than 25 places remaining for the adult race. Go get 'em while they're hot!

And after the 10k, an event for ourselves!!   Betty has received this invitation for us all:

FRI 7pm 27th Jun: 3-Way Mob Match
Following on from the very enjoyable mob match held at High Elms in autumn 2007, New Eltham Joggers would like to invite Petts Wood Runners and Orpington Road Runners to a return mob match at Avery Hill park on Friday 27th June at 7.00pm. We plan a 4 mile plus race around Avery Hill park and then back to the Metro Gas bar for drinks and some food. Changing rooms and showers are also available at Metro Gas (Avery Hill Road SE9)

What's a Mob Match?

June 6th:

Race Day -16: Another 31 places allocated, now close to 300 of the 500 capacity for the 10k. Don't leave it till race day as there is unlikely to be entries available for this very popular road race!!  Visit the 10k page to register your interest or review the starters list.

It's a game of two halves...
Bookmark this page and re-check daily to find out who is in the running for buying a winning round of drinks to celebrate their victory in Nick's Euro 2008 Sweepstake!
June 3rd:

Race Day -19: Another 20 places allocated to the Orpington 10k - this is looking like a SELL OUT year again. Get your entries in quick - less than a fortnight before postal entries close!!  Even Peter Tucker, many times winner from previous years, has got his #1 place!!
A note from John Mackay:  "Following our recent Annual Do and a number of years of leading on all things social for the Club, Linda Kemp has decided to pass on the baton to somebody else.

With the help of a willing band, Linda has organised a variety of different events ranging from the Annual Do, Barn Dances, nics, quizzes and Christmas do's. It is only fair to let Linda sit back and enjoy the next round of social events. So the opportunity exists for somebody to take a lead in pulling the social calendar together.

There is no fixed pattern to the events, in fact variety has been the spice of life. There is plenty of advice and assistance on offer, including Linda's wide experience. If anyone is interested in taking on the role, please feel free to talk to Linda or one of the Committee."
